Jean Vandesteen: A Jiu-Jitsu Luminary from Rio de Janeiro

Born in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Vandesteen was thrust into the dynamic world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) in the late 1980s, a period marked by its inevitable street confrontations. Jean's journey in the art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (GJJ) flourished under the mentorship of Grand Master Relson Gracie. His training focused on both Gi and No-Gi competitions, always with an eye towards real-life self-defense scenarios, ensuring a holistic development in GJJ techniques.

Earning his Black Belt in 2003, Jean dedicated his life to mastering and advancing GJJ, achieving numerous accolades in both national and international arenas. His competition record is as impressive as it is diverse, reflecting his dedication and skill:

Meet Nicky Ryan. The “other Nicky” on the team and the youngest member of B-Team Jiu-Jitsu. Nicky is the youngest ADCC competitor to ever compete. Nicky has risen through the ranks over the last few years, showing his versatility in the sport as well as his devastating submission game. His bread and butter is his ability to wrestle up from the guard position, an innovative approach to the game rarely seen from other competitors.

Past Events

Justin Flores embarked on his judo journey at the age of eight, quickly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with by clinching numerous national and international accolades during his early years. However, he took a hiatus from judo upon his high school entrance, opting instead to dive into wrestling. There, his natural talent was undeniable, ultimately earning him a third-place national ranking. His wrestling talent caught the eye of coaches in Nebraska, securing him a full scholarship. Utimately, his passion for judo called him back, leading to his eventual status as a World Team member. Flores's competitive spirit took him across the globe to over 30 countries, culminating in his role as the 2004 Olympic alternate for Team USA.

Post-competition, Flores has achieved worldwide fame as a premier grappling mentor. He has thrice coached the US Judo World Team and has become a sought-after coach among UFC fighters, including notable names like Ronda Rousey and Alpha Cat Zingano, solidifying his legacy in the grappling community.
