Martial Arts Near Severn, MD — Training for Families, Veterans, and Everyone In Between
Severn and Hanover are practically neighbors, which means Rising Tide Hi Tech Martial Arts is as close to a local gym as Severn residents are going to find. We’re right down the road at 7030 Hi Tech Drive in Hanover — a full martial arts academy offering classes for kids, adults, and a dedicated program for veterans and first responders through our partnership with the We Defy Foundation.
Kids Martial Arts for Severn Families
Severn is a family community, and our kids programs reflect that. We offer structured, age-appropriate training from ages five through the teen years — programs built around real martial arts, not just movement classes with belts attached.
Little Sharks (Ages 5-7) gives the youngest students a place to build focus, coordination, and listening skills through age-appropriate jiu-jitsu basics. The format is fun, but the habits it builds are real.
Junior BJJ (Ages 7-13) is where kids start learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu in a more serious format — with technique drilling, positional sparring, and an emphasis on problem-solving under pressure. Many Severn families choose BJJ specifically because it teaches kids to handle conflict calmly rather than react emotionally.
For kids who want to train on their feet, Kids Muay Thai and Kids Boxing are available alongside the grappling curriculum. And for students ready to compete, the Kids Competition Class prepares them for tournament environments.
Martial arts gives kids from military families something consistent and grounding — a skill and a community that travels with them.
We Defy Foundation: Training for Veterans and First Responders
Severn sits in the shadow of Fort Meade and NSA, and our community reflects that. Many residents here serve or have served. Rising Tide Hi Tech is a proud partner of the We Defy Foundation, a nonprofit that provides Brazilian jiu-jitsu training to veterans and first responders — free of charge.
The We Defy Foundation uses jiu-jitsu as a tool for mental and physical recovery. The mat is a place where the mind has to be present, problems are solved in real time, and progress is measurable. For veterans navigating the transition out of service or managing the weight of what that service cost, BJJ has proven to be a powerful outlet.
If you or someone you know served this country or works as a first responder, reach out to us. This program exists for you.
